This study analyzed the oral narratives of 10 Filipino comfort women. Guided by Ernest Bormann’s Symbolic Convergence Theory, Joseph Campbell’s four functions of a myth, and G.S. Kirk’s typology of functions of myth, the researcher analyzed the narratives based on these four units of analysis: the historical experiences, the mythical expressions, the myth, and the rhetorical vision. Why does it seem like most Filipina woman is more grateful and appreciative for the simple things in life? Why does it seem like Filipina women do not try to take over the marriage and try to rule there house like some of American women do? Why does it seem like some American women are more materialistic and money hungry and more concerned about being a career woman and proving there equality while neglecting there husbands and children, then being a loving wife and mother? Just wondering

if she is filipina from the phillipines, and not filipina from america, than it is probably a result of the asian cultural upbringing. there are different things expected of you in asia than in north america, and you have different standards and things which are considered normal, which could explain why she seems different.
however, not all filipina are different from americans, it is just a portion which are.

I am a Filipina woman who has in the fairly recent past become attracted to Black men as this is highly discouraged in the traditional filipino community. I dated an African American man who help me rid of my ignorance and who also helped me further my education as an Ethnic Studies major. I have always identified best with African American men, women and culture so most of my close friends are black. I have several issues with dealing with my close friends and their views on interracial relationships – especially with black men. It is a difficult situation for me since they have always been my best friends, and I have recently started dating black men. I would appreciate some general thoughts in regards to the issue.
